Morningstar`s Indexes group seeks a Director of Business Development to expand its business by building new licensing partnerships and managing relationships with key clients. This position is located in our Chicago office. The Indexes group creates innovative investment benchmarks that can be licensed by institutions. As Director of Business Development, you will be responsible for institutional-level sales of Morningstar`s index families—including equity, fixed-income, commodity, and asset allocation indexes. Your targets will include exchange-traded fund providers, mutual funds companies, structured product desks, and other firms that create investment products. The Director of Business Development will be responsible for client prospecting, making presentations, consultative selling at the decision-maker level, and negotiating business terms. This individual will develop business by leveraging trade shows, industry publications, and relationships with sales teams in Morningstar`s other groups. The Director of Business Development will provide post-sale support to help clients maximize their product distribution, acting as a conduit between the client and the product development team. We are looking for someone with a desire to learn about different asset classes and financial instruments. Candidates must have intimate knowledge of the financial services industry and past experience in business development. A minimum of eight years of industry experience is required, while an emphasis on institutional sales is desirable. Success in this role calls for good business acumen, as well as strong interpersonal and relationship management skills. A bachelor`s degree is required; an MBA or a CFA is preferred.
