The Team: Morningstar Global Funds Data is accountable for the management and development of Morningstar`s proprietary investment funds database. Internally, the Global Funds Data team is responsible for the collection, validation, and provision of the highest quality, most comprehensive and timely data. Externally, the Global Funds Data team strengthens our communication and relationships with our fund data providers as well as fund data clients.
The Role: In this role you will lead performance data-related initiatives for Morningstar`s U.S. open-end fund database in an unstructured environment. This position works closely with the U.S. database leader to define the strategy to develop, enhance, and maintain open fund performance processes and U.S. open-end performance data set. You will also further develop global processing capabilities and set goals for the continuous enhancement of data coverage and quality. This position is based in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
+ Coordinate with key partners within the fund management industry to manage projects within an unstructured work environment pertaining to data addition and process improvements.
+ Maintain relationships with fund companies, transfer agents, and other external data providers.
+ Ensure the monthly performance sign-off and production process.
+ Identify valuable new types of data that could be collected and provided to products.
+ Investigate and resolve data issues and coordinate support of teams in responding to inquiries in order to ensure quality of mutual fund data delivered to media clients.
+ Coordinate shared processes and projects with cross-functional, global teams located in North America, Europe, and Asia.
+ Identify areas of opportunity for process improvement and coordinate the collection of correct and complete data to maintain and improve the quality of databases.
+ Improve mutual fund data collection and data management processes by reviewing procedures for technological efficiency, creating data tools for analysis of investment data using SQL and Python, and implementing improvements to collection, validation, and quality assurance methods.
+ Manage a team of one to three data analysts.
Requirements
+ A bachelor`s degree in economics, finance, business, or related field.
+ A minimum of one year experience as a data analyst.
+ Extensive experience developing mutual fund data collection and data management processes.
+ Strong knowledge of open fund performance processes.
+ Ability to effectively create data tools for analysis of investment data using SQL and Python.
+ Expertise in project management within an unstructured work environment pertaining to data addition and process improvements.
+ Extensive experience ensuring quality of mutual fund data delivered to media clients.
