The Team: Morningstar has provided independent investment research in Canada since 1999. We offer a broad range of products and services for individual investors, advisors, and institutional fund managers including software, investment analysis and consulting services, fund performance evaluation, and pension plan governance. In addition, we operate Morningstar`s retail investor website (www.morningstar.ca), which has approximately 120,000 unique visitors per month.

The Role: In this role as a Senior Software Developer, you will participate in the design and development of enterprise applications that process large amounts of financial data updated constantly by our collection systems. The candidate will also support existing production systems and constantly discover opportunities to re-factor and improve efficiency. This position is within the Canadian Technology Team and is based in our Toronto office.

Responsibilities
+ Enhance and maintain data production systems.
+ Work with local and offshore development teams to develop systems that ensure high quality and timely delivery of financial data to internal and external clients.
+ Provide timely troubleshooting support to resolve production issues.
+ Collaborate with various internal teams to ensure that financial calculations are properly applied to raw financial data and that they are transformed into finished datasets.
+ Use development best practices, proper design principles, and effective programming skills to ensure high quality deliverables.

Requirements
+ A minimum of 5 years prior experience working as a software developer.
+ Expert in either asp.net/C# and/or Java.
+ Proficient in databases such as MySQL and MS-SQL.
+ Experience in tools such as Maven, Hudson, SVN and JUnit.
+ Highly motivated to innovate on design, programming, and problem solving.
+ Proven track record developing scalable enterprise applications.
+ Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
+ A bachelor`s degree in computer science; a master`s degree is preferred. Non-computer science candidates will also be considered, if they have a proven programming track record.
