The Team: Morningstar Australasia`s Technology team is responsible for new and ongoing development of our financial products. We work to keep a sound, technically challenging environment conducive to productivity and engineering improvement. Technology is a key competency, along with financial research and innovative design. Clearly this role provides great opportunities that remain strategic to Morningstar.

The Role: Morningstar Australasia is looking for a Head of Technology. This position leads the technology department, which provides both internal and client facing capabilities including infrastructure, applications, and product support. This leadership role oversees the software development process and engineering excellence objectives. There is a strong set of business demands and collaboration and visibility with both local and global senior management and product managers. The position works within Morningstar`s global technology organization with other key development centres in Chicago, Europe, and China. Some use of offshore entities exists as well. This position is based in our Sydney, Australia office.

Responsibilities
+ Oversee the day-to-day operations of the technology teams.
+ Establish and maintain 3rd party and vendor relationships as required.
+ Participate and drive the global technology initiatives and standards.
+ Will be a key contributor towards Engineering Excellence objectives for the company.
+ Ensure security and privacy standards, polices, and disaster recovery requirements are met.
+ Ensure technical viability of solutions proposed by product managers.
+ Work to dovetail into the broader corporate initiatives around nextgen platforms, mobility, and cloud computing.
+ Manage and guide technical careers focusing on retention, recruiting, and training.
+ Keep abreast, leverage, and drive adoption of new technologies and best practices.

Requirements
+ Good communication skills, both written and oral together with well-developed interpersonal skills.
+ Strong relationship building skills including the ability to build consensus through collaboration.
+ Demonstrable project management and planning capabilities with a strong client service focus.
+ An entrepreneurial and creative approach to the working environment.
+ Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical personnel.
+ Conversant across a wide range of technologies.
+ Educated to at least degree level in an IT / development related subject.
+ 3rd party supplier and vendor management experience.
+ Prior use and support of offshore or remote development teams.
+ At least 2 years experience gained in a leadership / senior management role within a global organization.
+ Progressive experience gained in a technology environment within financial services.
