Data Analyst, Commodity Data

The Team: The Data Division is responsible for collecting and maintaining data on approximately 385,000 investment offerings, including stocks, mutual funds, and similar vehicles. Morningstar`s Commodity Data business (formerly LIM) aggregates market and fundamental data from several hundred sources for blue chip customers engaged in commodity trading and risk management. The team`s strengths lie in building creative software solutions for market data collection, organization, and distribution coupled with a suite of applications to query data at the desktop and feed it to downstream enterprise applications.

The Role: The Data Analyst works with other data analysts, data developers, and product support specialists to ensure Commodity Data distributes accurate, reliable, and timely data to clients. You will monitor processing activities of the data warehouse and respond to all problems that may occur. The hours are Monday-Friday from 9am-6pm. This role may require up to 5% travel, and is based in our Austin, TX office.

Responsibilities
+ Monitor data warehouse using proprietary data management tools, Unix scripting, and SQL query language.
+ Ensure the quality of data exported from data warehouse using proprietary data management tools and SQL query language.
+ Collect, review, and input data into computer processing system.
+ Identify and resolve production related errors.
+ Maintain and revise procedural lists, control records, and coding schemes to process source data.
+ Correspond by phone and email to resolve problems with data vendor partners regarding data content questions.
+ Handle escalated data content questions from product support team.
+ Escalate data processing issues to data development team.
+ Understand how clients use Morningstar Commodity Data.
+ Develop quality assurance methodologies and tools.

Requirements
+ A bachelor`s degree, with an exceptional academic record in economics, finance, computer science, or a related field.
+ Basic knowledge of data warehousing.
+ Experience working with relational databases (Oracle, mySQL).
+ Knowledge of SQL query language and Unix/Linux.
+ Dependable and willing to work different shifts for this 24/7 operation.
+ Excellent analytical skills and a strong attention to detail.
+ Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
+ Experience with VB, C++, and Java is preferred.
