The Group: Morningstar’s Research group provides independent analysis on individual securities, funds, markets, and portfolios. The Role: Morningstar’s structured credit research and ratings subsidiary seeks an experienced commercial mortgage-backed security (CMBS) Loan Analyst. As a Loan Analyst, you will critically analyze the credit risk in commercial real estate loans by performing fundamental line item re-underwriting to derive sustainable cash flow and valuations on a broad range of properties. This position requires 10 to 20 percent travel and is based in our New York City office or Horsham, Pennsylvania office.

Responsibilities
+ Re-underwrite commercial real estate loans.
+ Write detailed Asset Summary Reports.
+ Perform property site visits in support of loan analysis.
+ Assist with ongoing refinement of loan analysis criteria and model templates.
+ Assist CMBS Surveillance team with cash flow and valuation estimations on specially-serviced and internally identified high-risk loans.
+ Lead/assist with research projects in support of CMBS ratings efforts and commercial real estate new product development projects.
+ Lead/assist with commercial real estate new product development projects as needed.

Requirements
+ At least four years of direct experience in commercial real estate underwriting across a broad range of property types.
+ Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
+ Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
+ Working experience with property appraisals, asset management and/or loan workouts is preferred.
+ Working knowledge of structural and legal elements of CRE loans is preferred.
+ Bachelor’s degree is required.
+ Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
