Exchange-Traded Fund Tools and Charts
With Morningstar® Enterprise Components, firms can implement standard to custom ETF tools on any website or assemble them into an ETF research center. Our insightful, fundamental tools and charts help financial professionals and investors better understand how ETFs fit within investment plans. Powered by the Morningstar database, our tools and charts can integrate information for nearly 100% of the global ETF market. They also incorporate new ideas, metrics, and methodologies from our ETF analysts who are thought leaders in ETF research.
Standard capabilities include:
Correlation Analyzer
Determine which securities are most or least correlated when making portfolio decisions
View the rolling historical correlation of the selected investments in a Historical Matrix graph
Present the correlation results in a FINRA-reviewed Correlation Matrix report
Morningstar<span class="registered">&#174;</span> Enterprise Components<img src="../images/SM_12p_black.gif" />
The Correlation Analyzer tool encourages smarter decisions when making portfolio changes, such as adding new holdings to an existing portfolio, replacing current holdings, or replacing an existing portfolio with an ETF. It identifies suitable investments that lower the correlation between securities to help reduce portfolio risk. Users can enter a security, index, or portfolio, then choose a desired time period. Results are easily filtered by correlation in a list or in a client-ready Correlation Matrix report.
Total Cost Analyzer
Identify the most cost-effective ETF for an investor based on investment amount and timeframe
Apply Morningstar’s proprietary Total Cost methodology
Receive results in an easy-to-understand table and graph
Morningstar<span class="registered">&#174;</span> Enterprise Components<img src="../images/SM_12p_black.gif" />
The Total Cost Analyzer for ETFs exposes when the ETF with the lowest expense ratio may not be the least expensive choice. Built on Morningstar’s proprietary Total Cost methodology, the tool calculates its results based on three metrics we created to evaluate ETFs—estimated holding cost, tracking volatility, and market impact cost.
ETF Exposure Evaluator
Analyze exposure based on user-selected portfolio criteria
Set exposure minimums and maximums
View in-depth portfolio statistics for each ETF compared to a benchmark or category
Morningstar<span class="registered">&#174;</span> Enterprise Components<img src="../images/SM_12p_black.gif" />
The ETF Exposure Evaluator tool helps add or avoid exposure to specific portfolio characteristics. It’s the perfect tool for identifying ETFs to meet a portfolio’s desired asset allocation. Users can screen and analyze investments by custom criteria such as sectors, style, world regions, asset allocation, and category. They can also view detailed portfolio information and compare it to a benchmark or category.
Reverse Stock Lookup
Find ETFs that hold a specific stock
Generate a Multiple Fund Comparison report with the results
Morningstar<span class="registered">&#174;</span> Enterprise Components<img src="../images/SM_12p_black.gif" />
Reverse Stock Lookup helps users quickly determine which ETFs include exposure to a specific stock. An auto-complete function makes it easy to find stocks by entering a ticker, the first letters of the company’s name, or a portion of its name. Results can appear in a Multiple Fund Comparison report for additional analysis.
ETF Price Chart
Chart price and volume with real-time or delayed ETF data
Benchmark an investment against indexes or other ETFs
Morningstar<span class="registered">&#174;</span> Enterprise Components<img src="../images/SM_12p_black.gif" />
Available as a stand-alone chart or within Morningstar Report pages, the ETF Price Chart helps users examine price changes in a specific ETF over defined or custom timeframes. A full range of data from real-time to delayed can be displayed at the top of the chart. Users can also use this chart to compare an ETF to relevant indexes or to other ETFs.
ETF Premium Discount Chart
Analyze the difference between an ETF’s market close price and its underlying net asset value (NAV)
View a single fund or compare the premium discounts of two ETFs
Morningstar<span class="registered">&#174;</span> Enterprise Components<img src="../images/SM_12p_black.gif" />
The ETF Premium Discount Chart helps identify investment opportunities by demonstrating the difference between an ETF’s market close price and its underlying NAV. Users can adjust time periods and display the results in a histogram, monthly average, and price vs. NAV chart.
ETF Tracking Error Chart
Assess the deviation of an ETF’s performance relative to its benchmark index
View current, historical, and trailing return data
Morningstar<span class="registered">&#174;</span> Enterprise Components<img src="../images/SM_12p_black.gif" />
The ETF Tracking Error Chart compares how closely a fund tracks its benchmark over time. Users can graph the results over various time periods and compare two funds.
