Morningstar to Host Annual Investment Conference, June 23-25 in Chicago
CHICAGO, June 4, 2004 – Morningstar, Inc., a leading provider of independent investment research, is hosting its annual investment conference June 23-25, 2004, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago on the Riverwalk. Now in its 16th year, the Morningstar Investment Conference is expected to attract nearly 1,000 financial advisors and money managers who will hear from leading experts about the investing climate and the current state of the mutual fund industry.

“This year’s agenda includes a strong roster of fund managers and financial experts who will address a wide range of timely investment topics such as mutual fund reform, growth investing, municipal bond funds, real estate, and large-cap investing,” said Don Phillips, Morningstar managing director. “I’m looking forward to hearing the lively discussions and debates that unfold throughout the conference.”

The conference begins with the Morningstar Insight Forum, a series of pre-conference practice management sessions for financial advisors, which will take place from 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23. The conference officially kicks off at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, with three thought-provoking panel discussions led by Morningstar stock and mutual fund analysts. The conference continues through Thursday, June 24, and Friday, June 25, with a series of sessions that will provide insights from some of the industry's most respected portfolio managers and financial-services leaders.

Morningstar Conference Highlights

  • 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 23: Don Phillips, Morningstar managing director; Russel Kinnel, director of fund research; Kunal Kapoor, director of fund analysis; and Christine Benz, associate director of fund analysis, will discuss the mutual fund industry and key issues facing investors.
  • 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, June 23:  Pat Dorsey, director of stock analysis; Haywood Kelly, chief of securities analysis; and Mark Sellers, equities strategist, will provide their insights on the latest trends in today’s market and discuss Morningstar’s approach to stock analysis.
  • 12 p.m., Thursday, June 24 – Keynote presentation: Christopher C. Davis, portfolio manager and CEO of Davis Advisors
  • 12 p.m., Friday, June 25 – Keynote presentation: John Montgomery, founder of Bridgeway Capital Management

The cost to attend the conference is $645 and includes all conference sessions, keynote addresses, meals, and two cocktail receptions. The Morningstar Insight Forum, a half-day seminar on Wednesday, June 23, costs $195.
