Investors to 'Chart a New Course' on Third Annual Morningstar Investment Cruise

CHICAGO, Jul 16, 2002 – Professional and individual investors will spend a week mingling with the industry's top financial experts as they sail the Southern Caribbean on the third annual Morningstar Investment Cruise, Feb. 8-15, 2003.

"We look forward to providing investors with a unique opportunity to discuss timely issues with industry experts in a relaxed and informal setting," said Don Phillips, managing director of Morningstar and host of next year's cruise. "The itinerary incorporates a seminar at sea with the opportunity to enjoy some of the Caribbean's most dazzling beaches and attractions."

The cruise will depart from San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Feb. 8, and will continue to Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Tortola, and St. Thomas. The program features discussions with experts such as: John Bogle, founder and former chairman of the Vanguard Group; Patrick Dorsey, director of stock analysis for Morningstar; Christine Benz, editor of Morningstar FundInvestor; Brian Portnoy, Morningstar mutual fund analyst, and Travis Pascavis, Morningstar stock analyst.

The seminar will cover a variety of timely topics, including:

  • Mistakes to avoid in fund investing
  • Rules to follow for stock investing
  • Advice on using Morningstar's star rating system for mutual funds and stocks
  • How to decide when to sell
  • Tips on building a sound portfolio in today's turbulent marketplace

The seven-day itinerary offers an opportunity to earn continuing education credits and ample time for investors and advisors to network. Guests may attend an evening cocktail reception, enjoy duty-free shopping in St. Thomas, snorkel in the picturesque bays of Tortola, and explore the lush forests and beaches of St. Lucia.

Advance registration is required and attendance is limited.
