Morningstar.com Relaunches Premium Membership -- Premium Service Surpasses 100,000 Member Milestone

CHICAGO, Oct 02, 2002 – Morningstar.com, consistently ranked among the best investment sites on the Web, today relaunched its exclusive, subscription-based Premium Membership service, adding numerous portfolio analytical tools and editorial features to help investors build better portfolios. 

"Morningstar.com's Premium Membership service has proved to be tremendously popular with serious investors who recognize the value of our independent investment analysis, proprietary tools, and the depth and breadth of our data," said Catherine Odelbo, president of Morningstar's Retail business. "Since we launched our Premium service in 1998, we've added scores of sophisticated tools and significantly expanded our coverage of stocks and other investment vehicles. Today, we're adding new features to our best analytical tools, in order to provide a more powerful service for our members. Our goal is to help people build more diversified portfolios, which we consider to be at the heart of successful investing."

Morningstar.com has 1.3 million Free Members. Its Premium service recently surpassed the 100,000 member milestone, making it one of the top three investment information sites in terms of paid subscribers on the Web. 

As part of the relaunch, Morningstar.com has added the following portfolio monitoring tools, e-mail newsletters and alerts, and articles to its Premium service, which can only be found at Morningstar.com:

  • New Premium Stock and Fund Selector tools have been redesigned to include more data points, searches that can be saved, and preset Morningstar Analyst Screens so members can learn from what the pros are doing. The new "Test in Portfolio" feature shows members how the stock or fund they screened fits into their portfolios.              
  • Portfolio X-Ray Overview breaks down portfolios into eight categories, including asset allocation, Morningstar Style BoxTM diversification, stock type, stock sector, stock stats, world regions, fees and expenses, and top 10 holdings.              
  • Portfolio management tools such as Cost Analyzer, Risk Analyzer, Trade Analyzer, Similar Funds, and Asset Allocator offer analysis on costs, risks, and investment goals to help members build diversified portfolios.              
  • Stock Analyst Notes, and the accompanying daily e-mail, offer timely analysis on stock performance from Morningstar's stock analyst team.               
  • Stock Analyst Picks offers selections in each of the 12 Morningstar sectors, providing comprehensive research and favorite stock choices from Morningstar's analysts.               
  • Weekly e-mail newsletters Stock Picks & Pans and Fund Picks & Pans provide focused commentary on investments Morningstar analysts either love or hate.
