ProEquities Selects Morningstar Advisor Workstation Advice and Planning Tools

CHICAGO, Dec 16, 2002 – Morningstar, Inc., a global investment research firm, today announced that ProEquities, Inc. has chosen the Morningstar Advisor WorkstationSM, a customizable set of online investment planning tools. ProEquities now has access to Advisor Workstation's comprehensive features, including a proprietary advice and planning tool that delivers specific investment suggestions.

Jeff Ball, assistant vice president of technology at ProEquities, said, "We looked at several tools in the market, but none of the offerings matched Workstation's powerful asset-allocation, research, advice, and planning features. Using this new technology, our advisors can more easily identify sales prospects, handle more accounts, and build stronger relationships with their clients."

Michael Black, a ProEquities financial advisor, said, "I use Morningstar Workstation from the initial meeting where I show potential clients how my portfolios have performed, to the analysis of their current portfolio, to developing the proposed portfolio. Then I monitor and adjust their active portfolios. How else could I communicate what they have, what they need, and what I can deliver? Morningstar Workstation is essential in any planner's practice."

Morningstar is providing ProEquities with a customized version of the Morningstar Advisor WorkstationSM, including an advice tool that recommends specific investments. This application develops clear strategies for meeting multiple investment objectives such as buying a house, paying for college, and saving for retirement. It also produces detailed proposals that compare the holdings in a client's current portfolio against the holdings in a suggested portfolio, highlighting the differences in asset allocation, style, sector weightings, and other criteria.

In addition to these advice tools, Workstation also includes a research module that allows advisors to analyze and compare the full universe of mutual funds, variable annuities, and stocks, and an asset-allocation tool that helps create portfolios with appropriate target asset mixes. It also enables advisors to create NASD-compliant hypothetical illustrations and presentation materials in PDF-file format.

"Investors recognize Morningstar's name and reputation and are put at ease knowing that their advisors make decisions based upon analysis from a trusted source," said Chris Boruff, president of Morningstar's advisor business. "Now, ProEquities' advisors will have Morningstar's proprietary investment research at their fingertips, ready to share with their clients."
