Morningstar to Hold 17th Annual Investment Conference June 20 to 22

CHICAGO, May 11, 2005 – Morningstar, Inc. (Nasdaq: MORN) will host its 17th annual investment conference in Chicago, June 20 to 22. The company expects more than 1,000 industry experts, financial advisors, and money managers to gather for the event.

This year’s conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago and will address a variety of timely topics, such as:

  • Bill Gross Unplugged: Bill Gross, PIMCO founder and chief investment officer, will reveal his outlook for the markets and where he’s placing his bets.
  • Is Growth the New Value?: David Corkins, portfolio manager and executive vice president of Janus Mercury Fund, and Robert Hagstrom, senior vice president of Legg Mason, will discuss their outlooks for value and growth funds.
  • The Right Way to Index: Gus Sauter, chief investment officer and managing director of Vanguard Group, and Robert Arnott, chairman of Research Affiliates, will debate the merits of different indexing approaches.

“The Morningstar Investment Conference gives financial advisors direct access to some of the industry’s most seasoned investment managers,” said Morningstar Managing Director Don Phillips. “We’ll explore some fascinating issues: What will investment returns look like in an era of higher interest rates? Is the pendulum finally shifting from value to growth? How will the fund industry adjust to the post-scandal environment? This year’s program features a lineup of experts who will address many concerns that are top-of-mind for investors and advisors.”

The conference begins with the Morningstar Insight Forum, a series of preconference investing sessions for financial advisors moderated by Phillips. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 20, three panels of industry experts and veteran advisors will address the impact of exchange-traded funds, separate accounts and hedge funds on financial-advisory practices.

“Morningstar Night” begins at 6 p.m. Monday and will feature thought-provoking panel discussions led by senior Morningstar stock and mutual fund analysts. The conference continues through Wednesday, June 22, with a series of sessions that will offer insights from several of the industry's most respected portfolio managers and financial services leaders.
