Morgan Stanley Selects Morningstar for Independent Stock Research - Six Major Investment Banks Now Offer Morningstar Research

CHICAGO – Sept. 28, 2005 – Morningstar (Nasdaq: MORN) today announced it has entered into an agreement with Morgan Stanley to provide its brokerage clients with independent stock research under the terms of the Global Analyst Research Settlement reached in 2003 with federal and state regulators.  Morgan Stanley is the sixth investment-banking firm to use Morningstar for its independent equity information as part of the terms of the settlement. Other firms that offer Morningstar equity research are Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, Piper Jaffray, and Citigroup’s Smith Barney unit.

Morgan Stanley will offer Morningstar Stock Analyst Reports to its financial advisors and investors as part of the settlement provision to provide independent equity research to clients alongside in-house research. 

Morningstar has more than 85 analysts covering 1,600 stocks.
