Senior Retirement Services Analyst

The Team : Morningstar`s Investment Management division consists of three business units, Investment Advisory, Retirement Solutions, and Managed Portfolios. We use our expertise in asset allocation, manager research, and portfolio construction to create innovative investment solutions for institutions, advisors, and investors. The Investment Advisory unit builds and manages customized investment solutions and products to help differentiate our institutional clients in the marketplace. We serve clients through two registered investment advisors, Morningstar Associates and Ibbotson Associates.

The Role : In this role, as a senior member within the Retirement Services Division, you will construct portfolios for large institutional clients utilizing Morningstar Direct, Encor, Quickbase and Excel. This position is based in Chicago, Illinois.

Responsibilities
+ Analyze investment data related to a full range of asset classes (including large and small cap, international fixed income, long and short bonds, cash, TIF and high yield bonds) to determine solutions for portfolio construction and model portfolios.
+ Perform manager/fund selection taking into consideration criteria such as style consistency, risk/return statistics, and correlation to benchmarks, while performing quantitative and qualitative due diligence.
+ Perform returns and holdings based financial analysis and use forward looking statistical methodology in recommending solutions for client products, services and deliverables.
+ Train junior team members in the portfolio construction process.
+ Communicate data requirements and resolve issues related to mutual fund data, individual plan information, capital market assumptions, and investment data needs with Ibbotson Advice clients on a daily basis.
+ Lead financial research projects related to calculation methodology enhancements and portfolio construction, applying asset allocations, modern portfolio statistics, and returns and holdings-based analysis.
+Make recommendations for the testing of internal process enhancements.
+Ensure project milestones and deliverables by performing project management within an unstructured work environment.
+Provide feedback to develop and improve the Retirement team’s processes and documentation.
+Communicate regularly with retirement solutions team in China and participate in conference calls related to financial research projects.

Requirements
+ A master`s degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field
+ Minimum of one year of experience in portfolio management or retirement advice (or BS+5).
+ Must have experience with analyzing investment options related to a full range of asset classes, leveraging forward looking statistical methodology to measure and predict fund performance, and performing returns and holdings based financial analysis.
+ Previous experience working on financial research projects including projects related to calculation methodology enhancements in an unstructured work environment is desired.
+ Be willing to work late hours (8-10pm) to collaborate with China team.
