Australasian Credit Securities Analyst

The Team: Morningstar is one of the largest independent sources for equity and credit analysis in the world, with global equity coverage of nearly 2,000 companies and credit research on more than 700 firms. We research over 30 Australian hybrid securities, using a consistent methodology that identifies the issuer`s sustainable competitive advantages and risks. For valuation, we use proprietary models to develop intrinsic value estimates on each coverage security. Our research opinions are distributed on a variety of proprietary and external platforms to institutional investors, advisors, brokers, and individual investors.

The Role: Our research group requires an experienced credit securities analyst to cover Australian hybrid securities and help push our credit efforts forward. Performing fundamental analysis within our well-defined research framework, the role holder will write research reports and determine fair values on a select group of securities. This person will be accountable for pitching investment ideas internally and externally in accordance with Morningstar`s investment methodology. The role is based in our Sydney office.

Responsibilities
+ Research, analyze, and determine fair values and recommendations on about thirty hybrid securities.
+ Build valuation models on coverage securities, focusing on key business drivers and unique security characteristics.
+ Regularly publish reports and in-depth research pieces on coverage securities.
+ Develop relationships with coverage companies and industry participants to enhance research and build brand.
+ Show a constant interest in pushing Morningstar`s research methodology and business forward.
+ Proactively surface attractive investment ideas internally and externally to support all products and clients.
+ Meet with retail, advisor, and institutional clients to discuss research and Morningstar methodology.
+ Coordinate with local and global equity and credit analyst teams regarding content, methodology, and business etc.
+ Must act with independence and an `investor`s first` attitude at all times.

Requirements
+ Posses independence, critical thinking skills, and a passion for investing.
+ Communicate well both written and orally with public company executives and institutional investors.
+ Have a bias toward long-term fundamental research and investing.
+ Work well within a team and be capable of respectfully accepting and providing constructive feedback.
+ Make timely decisions under demanding deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information.
+ Sound financial modeling skills together with knowledge of security valuation techniques.
+ A minimum of a bachelor`s degree in a finance, accounting, mathematics or IT-related subject is required.
+ Graduate degree or CFA designation preferred.
+ At least five years` experience gained in fixed interest, credit analyst or equity research positions
