MetLife Retirement and Savings to Offer Morningstar`s Online Retirement Guidance Tool to 401(k) Plan Participants

New York, NY, July 27, 2004 – MetLife Retirement and Savings announced today plans to offer online retirement planning guidance from Morningstar Associates, LLC, a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. Morningstar Associates offers this comprehensive service as a package that combines research, education, and investment guidance to help employees take control of their financial futures. The new service will be offered to 401(k) plan participants for the small and mid-market plans for which MetLife serves as the recordkeeper.

Morningstar Associates’ online retirement guidance service helps participants choose the proper mix of investments at the sub-asset-class level to enable them to invest their savings based on their needs and goals, using an innovative `bear market` simulator to test their risk tolerance. Available to MetLife plans with more than $3 million in assets, it will offer plan participants a personalized, goals-based approach to retirement planning that takes into account an individual`s entire portfolio, including non-retirement assets. Participants may also tap into a wide range of investing and retirement planning information.

“A number of recent studies show that Americans are feeling confident about having enough money to live comfortably in retirement. However, despite their long-term confidence, many workers are still unsure of how to create a well-diversified retirement plan. Many people simply don’t know how to construct the appropriate mix of investments within their 401(k) plans,” said Bill Slater, vice president, MetLife Retirement and Savings. “With Morningstar, these individuals will have easy access to investment guidance at their fingertips.”

“Like most areas in life, people achieve their goals through proper planning,” said John Rekenthaler, president of Morningstar Associates. “We take the guesswork out of retirement planning by offering an easy-to-use, yet sophisticated tool that helps people create well-diversified 401(k) portfolios.”

More than 9 million retirement plan participants had access to Morningstar retirement services through 59,500 plan sponsors and 34 retirement plan providers, as of Dec. 31, 2003.
