Morningstar Launches Client Site to Help Librarians Better Manage Challenges

CHICAGO, June 22, 2005 – In order to help librarians effectively communicate to patrons what tools and features are available on Morningstar.com Library Edition, Morningstar has unveiled a new site developed exclusively for Morningstar.com Library Edition’s clients.

The client site includes usage reports, marketing materials, how-to guides and training sessions.  The Library Edition is based on Morningstar’s Web site for individual investors, Morningstar.com, and offers proprietary stock and mutual fund analysis, screening tools, and portfolio building features for public, corporate, and academic libraries.

“The new client site for Morningstar.com Library Edition is a resourceful tool for librarians, designed to help them better manage the increasing challenges of their jobs,” said Susan Dziubinski, director of library services for Morningstar. “Morningstar recognizes that as more is expected of librarians, the more they need tools that will ease their demands. Our new client site streamlines many tasks so librarians can spend more time serving their patrons.”

Morningstar.com Library Edition’s client site offers multiple features, including:

  • Tracking Reports: Site traffic reports so librarians can see which features of Library Edition are most popular with their patrons.
  • Library Notes archive: A collection of current and past issues of Library Notes, the monthly e-newsletter for Library Edition clients.
  • Press Release archive: A collection of current and past press releases related to Library Edition. Customizable shell releases are also available for librarians to send to local media.
  • Training Sessions: Librarians can use audio and video training sessions to learn about the features of Morningstar fund and stock reports. Also includes scripts for librarians to use when training patrons to access Library Edition.

Promotional Materials: Downloadable marketing materials for librarians including posters, table-top tents and how-to guides to inform patrons about Library Edition.
Morningstar.com Library Edition gives libraries comprehensive, independent investment research that can be made easily available to their patrons. The Library Edition includes optional remote access that provides patrons with 24-hour access to the most up-to-date stock and fund information. Other features include:

  • Stock Analyst Reports: Impartial buy and sell direction, fair value estimates and the exclusive Morningstar Rating for stocks.
  • Fund Analyst Reports: Written opinion by acknowledged Morningstar fund experts on more than 2,000 funds with the proprietary Morningstar Rating, Morningstar Style Box and more.
  • Screening Tools: Allows patrons to find the best stocks or funds for themselves by selecting specific data fields.
  • Diagnostic Tools: Explains the meaning of key datapoints and shows patrons how a stock or fund’s numbers stack up against the competition.
  • Portfolio X-Ray Overview: Gives a comprehensive and insightful eight-point analysis of a portfolio, including asset allocation, sector concentration and more.
  • Investing Classroom: Helps new and experienced investors master the skills required to successfully invest in stocks and funds.
